New Financing Opportunities for K-12 Schools and Community Colleges

The North Carolina State Energy Office will be disbursing American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) grant funding for energy-saving related projects to K-12 school systems and community colleges.

The SEO has proposed that $6.3 million dollars for energy grant funding be designated for these institutions as part of the USDOE's Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) program.  Grants will be competitive and focused on facilities-related projects, which save energy, utility costs, and create jobs.  The SEO may be issuing Request for Proposals as early as September 2009 with grant applications due as early as October 2009.  Applicants will be required to have an energy strategic plan in place to apply for funding.
