WRP Volunteers and Staff
Waste Reduction Partners is uniquely staffed with retired engineers, scientists, and staff who share their expertise with businesses and communities across North Carolina. As a multidisciplinary team of mechanical, electrical, civil, environmental, and chemical engineers, scientists, and architects, they have had distinguished careers in a variety of industries, such as automotive, food, textile, utility, chemical, paper, construction, aerospace, electronics, and government. This remarkable group has more than 2,200 years of cumulative experience. 

 

 

 

 

 

Don Hollister

hollister-don Work Experience:  22 years in aerospace industry; 20 years as co-owner of small business; 5 years as an independent contractor, taught non-credit course in technical writing, University of Akron.

Work History:  Seven years as an aeronautical research scientist at NACA (predecessor of NASA) performing tests on jet engines and components; five years as a technical writer/editor at Goodyear Aircraft Corp. writing and editing technical proposals, technical manuals, and other documentation.  Ten years at Northrop Carolina as a proposal coordinator and later as Manager, Technical Support Services Section, responsible for technical publications, print shop, configuration management, and technical library; twenty years as co-owner of small firm performing printing services as well as technical  publication services, and 5 years as independent contractor performing technical publication services.

Education:  B.E. in Mechanical Engineering, Vanderbilt University, 1948;  Senior Member, Society for Technical Communication

Terry Albrecht

Work History:  Director of the Waste Reduction Partners (WRP), a technical consulting group of the Land-of-Sky Regional Council, which works in a partnership with NC DENR and the State Energy Office. The innovative team of volunteer and staff engineers provides waste reduction and energy efficiency assistance to businesses and public institutions throughout North Carolina. Since 2000, WRP has provided over 116,000 hours of technical assistance, helping businesses and municipal clients save over $22 million in utility costs - while improving their environmental performance.
Education: Certified Energy Manager, a Professional Engineer in North Carolina, and holds Bachelor and Master Degrees in Civil and Environmental Engineering from NCSU.
 

Tom Edgerton

Work History:  Tom Edgerton brings vast management and technical experience to the WRP Program with a long career in environmental consulting and laboratory management.  Founded and managed three environmental and industrial services consulting firms. Most recently worked in pollution prevention technical assistance with the NCDPPEA and Waste Reduction Resource Center.  Was also the laboratory director for IEA in RTP for 12 years.  He has authored numerous scientific peer-reviewed publications and has won a Bronze Metal from the USEPA for his work with the Kepone spill in Hopewell ,Va.

Martin Ferris

Work Experience:  41 Years in Chemical / Process Industries
Work History: 14 years with Olin Corporation in engineering and operations. 27 years with Air Products & Chemicals as Plant / Site Manager, Corporate Safety & Environmental Director, and Manufacturing Director. Currently principal and owner of MW Ferris Group LLC and Sr. VP of The SRI Group.

Ernie Swanson

Work History: 37 years in Sales and Marketing at IBM and Cisco focusing on business solutions for worldwide accounts. The last 10 years were spent in Product Management, Enterprise Marketing and Brand Manager for Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexers. Activities included creation and implementation of marketing plans, product certification, product training sessions, product presentations at trade shows and education seminars and development of sales briefs and white papers.

Tom Kimmell

Elaine Marten

Wayne Rumble

rumble-waye Work Experience:   6 years - US Navy: Engineer Officer and acting Executive Officer aboard LST and Destroyer; 2 years -Ford Motor Company; 33 years - Brunswick Corporation.
Work History:  6 years of shipboard engineering officer experience in U.S. Navy. Thirty-two years in plant, marketing, and general management assignments with a major manufacturer of sporting goods equipment, involving high alloy steel metallurgy, nickel-chrome plating, graphite fiber matrix technology, metal and wood machining, and rubber technology.
Education: BS Industrial Management - Georgia Institutes of Technology; Brunswick Advanced Management Program for Middle and Upper Management: 6 - 2-week seminar/workshops over a period of 10 years.

Focus: Energy and water assessment, creation of fact sheets, operational and assessment guidelines, administration.

 

Dale Denny

Work History:  Currently providing consulting services to Waste Reduction Partners through Denny Technical Services where I was president.  Was General Manager for the Environment and Energy Division of Concurrent Technologies Corporation and was Executive Director for the National Defense Center for Environmental Excellence. Have over 30 years manufacturing, environmental, and research experience at EPA, Lockheed Missiles and Space Company, Environmental Research and Technology and as president of my own consulting firm.  Was Director of Product Development for the Ross Division of Abbott Laboratories and also taught chemical engineering for ten years at North Carolina State University as well as teaching OSHA, EPA and DOT training courses for over ten years.

George Tregay

tregay_photo Work Experience: 35 years in combustion instrumentation, sensor development, and servovalve development.
Work History:  Bell Aerospace Textron; made diagnostic measurements in reacting gas flows used for chemical lasers and was program manager on several government projects. Conax Buffalo, sensor development that included three patents for temperature and fiber optic sensors. HSC Contols / Woodward Governor; designed electrohydraulic servovalves for commercial and military applications.

Mary Fling

Work Experience:  25 years

Work History:  Senior scientist in a large pharmaceutical company in the areas of infectious diseases, molecular biology and molecular genetics. Indepth experience with a wide range of molecular biological and molecular genetics techniques and instrumentation that supported research in therapeutic areas such as oncology, viral and bacterial diseases, and asthma.  By leading and participating in international project teams, have developed strong communications and teamwork skills leading to successful outcomes in culturally diverse situations.
Education:  B.S. Microbiology and Immunology, University of Nebraska; Ph.D., Microbiology and Immunology, University of Washington.
Focus:  Energy efficiency
